Sailing through the southwestern part of the Frisian lakes has become even more attractive. The construction of five aqueducts is a boon for water sports enthusiasts; it’s now possible to just sail through instead of waiting for bridges.
The Poelen area is a unique piece of unspoiled countryside, ideal for a trip in an (electric) boat or paddling around by canoe or SUP.
A new electric-only route, opened in 2019, connecting the Oudegaasterbrekken, via the Blauwhuister Poelen, to the Bolswardervaart. Not really a route, but more of a crossing to sail the Frisian lakes to Bolsward or IJlst with ease.
This is a ‘fixed mast route’. The sailing route takes you over the Frisian Lakes and through narrow channels, one of the most beautiful in the whole of Friesland being the Wymerts between Bolsward and IJlst.
